Identity in Motherhood masterclass

In this masterclass I’ll situate motherhood within the patriarchal and neoliberal capitalist social context using feminist and philosophical theory

I’ll point out 6 key ideas about motherhood that I see as shaping our view of motherhood:

1. The way that capitalism ties your sense of self to your job
2. The lack of recognition of care labour and domestic labour
3. The patriarchal myth of what makes a good mother
4. The myth that women are natural nurturers
5. The narrow idea of who a mother is
6. Bounce back culture and the objectification of women’s bodies

I’ll use feminist theory to reframe your relationship with each of these ideas
